What is Poison?

What is Poison?

A long time ago while dealing with a database, I was curious about the format of timestamps and timezones (namely ISO 8601) and came across ISO (International Organization for Standardization). I thought it was interesting that an entire organization was dedicated to standardizing the format of anything and everything, literally. Since then I've often thought about how things are structured and how they could be improved and this is a somewhat satirical take on that.

Name:

I called it poison because focusing so closely on the details of random things is a stickler thing to do when it's not needed. POISON = Pointless Optimization of International Standards Oversimplified Naïvely

Some other names that I thought would be fitting:

  • SEMISOFT = Senselessly Overthought Mundane International Standards in Official Frameworks Today
  • CORTISOL = Comprehensive Overhaul of Regulations in International Standards Overthought Lazily
  • TRISOMIC = Total Reform of International Standards of Mixed Institutional Complexity
  • ISOLATED = International Standards On Minimally Applicable Technical Essential Decisions
